Key trends in private assets and wealth-planning challenges for 2026 | Private Corner Annual Conference

To mark its fifth anniversary—and after surpassing the €1 billion fundraising milestone—Private Corner held the third edition of its Annual Conference. Manuel Kalbreier (Neuberger Berman) and Thomas Vieillescazes (CVC DIF) shared their perspective on the key trends shaping private assets and the wealth-planning challenges ahead for 2026. Maxime Vanneaux then outlined how Private Corner is addressing these challenges for financial advisers and their private clients.

Patient capital is one of the defining features of private assets: a long-term horizon that makes it possible to support operational transformations, manage complex ownership transitions, and finance the real economy beyond the constraints of bank deleveraging.

Accompanying long-term transformations

According to Manuel Kalbreier, one of the major strengths of private assets lies in their very nature: patient, long-term capital.

In practical terms, this makes it possible to support operational transformations within portfolio companies, for example:

  • decarbonisation;
  • international expansion of local businesses;
  • and the deployment of artificial intelligence.

A key role in succession and ownership transitions

This permanent capital operates at the company-structure level and plays a key role in succession situations, particularly when a family-owned business held for many years is seeking new shareholders to support its transformation.

This type of transition is complex and, above all, unfolds over time—an investment horizon that patient capital is specifically able to absorb.

Private debt: bank deleveraging and financing the real economy

Finally, one of the major benefits of patient capital also plays out in private debt.

In a context of bank deleveraging, private debt is emerging as an essential financing channel to support growing activities—such as lending—or to meet factoring-related needs, in segments where demand is rising sharply and alternative solutions are taking an increasingly central role.

Infrastructure: an asset class at the heart of three major challenges

Thomas Vieillescazes discussed the central role of infrastructure, an asset class that addresses three major challenges:

  • Decarbonising the economy and driving the energy transition;
  • Digitalising the economy;
  • Deconsolidating government budgets.

Together, these forces create a significant volume of investment opportunities, both in Europe and globally.

Infrastructure: a complementary building block alongside private equity in asset allocation

According to Thomas Vieillescazes, within an asset-allocation strategy, infrastructure appears as a complementary building block alongside private equity.

By nature, infrastructure is a predictable asset class, anchored in a long-term horizon and generating highly recurring cash flows—clearly differentiating it from other private asset classes.

Private markets are a demanding asset class

The discussion also highlighted a reality: private markets are a demanding asset class.

Over the past five years, wealth management has opened up significantly—through digitalisation, more accessible formats, and a very tangible need among distributors to view the asset class as a tool for building long-term wealth plans.

Platformisation of the offering: core portfolio and satellite

In this context, Private Corner has structured a clear response: a platformisation phase for the offering, built around a core / satellite architecture.

An approach aligned with institutional standards, yet tailored to private wealth.

This support is built on several pillars:

  • a rigorous selection of managers;
  • equally rigorous structuring;
  • practical formats to support allocation decisions and ongoing monitoring (capital calls and distributions);
  • but above all, greater transparency and education around this asset class.

With this in mind, Private Corner is moving decisively in this direction with the recent launch of the Private Markets Academy.

Private Corner: the “one-stop shop” for private assets

The roadmap now looks to 2026, with a clear ambition: to make Private Corner a one-stop shop, able to offer—regardless of the amount to allocate, the investment horizon, or risk appetite—a comprehensive range spanning private equity, private debt and infrastructure.

Conclusion

The rise of private assets is structural, but it more than ever requires method, responsibility, and the right level of support.

It is in this spirit that Private Corner intends to position itself as the preferred partner for wealth professionals in 2026 and for the decade ahead.
